It’s easy, intuitive and offers different modes of use that will improve your experience as a user.

In the past decade, video editing and content creation have become so common and widespread. There was a time when you needed a high-end Windows PC or an iMac to create professional-quality videos. Now, due to the popularity of platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, more people are interested in making awesome videos. Of course, this wouldn’t have happened without crafty tools like Wondershare Filmora.
At TSB, we are familiar with what Wondershare Filmora offers. Many of our team members use the tool to create videos for their Instagram handles, YouTube channels, and other platforms. So, when we knew that Wondershare had upgraded things to Filmora X, we were more than excited to check it out. After spending a few hours with the tool, we knew you people deserved a dedicated review of Wondershare Filmora X.
And this is what it is. In this review, we will explore the different aspects of Wondershare Filmora X (Ten, not X) from an ordinary user’s viewpoint. We’ll be talking about how its features allow customers to create high-fidelity, supreme-quality videos without investing the time and effort that the likes of Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere would require.
Note: Wondershare Filmora X is available for many platforms, including Windows and macOS. So, the total number of features you get may vary depending on the device you use. We tested Filmora X on a MacBook Pro 13′ running Intel Core i5 processor for this review. However, we have tried to mention features exclusive to other platforms whenever possible.
About Wondershare Filmora X
As you can guess, Wondershare Filmora X is the 10th major release of the Filmora video editing suite created by Wondershare. If you didn’t know, Wondershare is a famous developer known for its easy-to-use software products, including PDFelement, Dr.Fone, and other utilities.
Filmora is the official Wondershare solution to create highly-innovative videos without the burden of system resources or a steep learning curve. In other words, the Filmora editor wants everyone to make their videos as creatively as possible.
Now, listen to this:
There have been many companies that claimed to simplify video editing. However, most of them turned out to be a sham. Of course, these tools got the basics right, but it left out many sections. Apparently, this is an area where Filmora excelled.
Instead of making an extended version of a video-cutting and joining tool, Wondershare created a complete package for all things video editing. It became the single destination for video tracks, effects, stock footage, transitions, effects, creative elements, and other useful features.
Now, Filmora X is a refined version of all these things. So, we are excited to see how impressive the content-creating process has become. Shall we begin?
Getting Started
Once you have installed Filmora X on your computer, it takes just a few seconds to start your first project.
To do this, you have to open the Filmora X app and choose the Project Aspect Ratio. Filmora has pre-selected a few options like Widescreen, Standard, Instagram, Portrait, and Cinema. So, if you want to make a trendy video for your Instagram story, you don’t have to worry about canvas sizes or exporting.
You can choose the Instagram aspect ratio, and Filmora X will do the rest.
For this review, we chose Portrait.
Making The Film Through Filmora X
Since I’m not a professional video editor, I cannot show you all the minute functions of the Filmora X suite. I can, however, give you a general idea about the filmmaking process of this program.
As you can see, the User Interface of Filmora X looks as professional as it gets. You have the pane for media, audio tracks, transitions, effects, elements, and other features on the left side. On the right side, there is an impressive Preview section with various control. On the bottom side, you get the multi-layer storyboard. It comes with not only the standard editing options but also advanced ones like Green Screen.
Things are this simple:
You can drag and drop the media and audio you want in your film. Thanks to Timeline Snap, Filmora X would automatically arrange these elements. Similarly, when you transition between two images or clips, the app can intelligently schedule the transition.
In short, the drag-and-drop system helps you to focus on how the film looks than on the technicalities. Even with minimal effort, you can create movies with high-quality transitions, effects, and creative elements. And yes, you can edit these individual elements with ease and ultimate control.
Once you are done with these, you can always export your Filmora X project into a compatible format such as MKV, MP4, MOV, MPEG-2, TS, AVI, and Apple ProRes. If you don’t know the right format for your device, you can simply select your device, and Filmora X would choose the format for you.
There are also options to integrate your YouTube and Vimeo accounts with Filmora X for easy uploads.
Therefore, if you know where to put what, making the perfect Instagram story or YouTube video via Filmora X wouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
Now, this is what we thought after our testing process. At the same time, we’d like to highlight some of the coolest features of this video editing suite.
What We Loved In Filmora X?
This isn’t a section to list out all the beautiful features in the Filmora X package. However, we have compiled a few components that ensure best-level productivity for all Filmora X users.
An Excellent Collection of Resources
Unlike other video editors in town, Filmora X presents an impressive collection of filmmaking resources. The free version itself comes with thousands of royalty-free audio files, transitions, effects, and other elements you can use. If they are not enough, you can always explore the Filmora Filmstock. Filmstock is a centralized store where you can get stock footage, effects, images, elements, etc.
Filmora For Mac Free
In short, you can find top-quality video-making content without paying a huge amount. Instead, Filmstock is based on a subscription option. This subscription starts at $9.99 per month, offering you various digital assets that you can easily import to Filmora X. For scale, the current library of Filmora Filmstock consists of more than 1,200,000 HD and 4K footage, 13,000+ unique video effects, and 980,000+ stock photos.
All these resources make it easier for everyone to build out their Filmora movie as they please.
Advanced Functions, Simplified UI
Keyframing and Motion Tracking are terms that you only associate with advanced filmmaking, right? Well, Filmora X brings all these features without a problem. That is, you can integrate custom-designed animations and enable intuitive object tracking into your videos without fail. There are also features like Audio Ducking, Color Match, and Keyboard Shortcuts.
You can integrate options like Video Effects, Green Screen, and Split Screen on top of these. You’ve to keep in mind that these features are as professional as they should be. It’s just that the Filmora X interface offers a more intuitive way to deal with it. If you don’t want all this simplicity, you can go straight ahead to color grading and speed control as well.
Therefore, as long as you are using Filmora X, you have the privilege of an intuitive UI.
Top-notch Performance
Like its predecessors, Filmora X performs so well in real life. We are talking about improved rendering speed and quicker previews. Sometimes, it feels like you are using a better Mac or PC than you currently have. That you can customize the exporting process also adds value to the real deal. Even when you push customizability to the edge, the Filmora X rendering engine can catch up.
Even while using features like Green Screen and Object Focus, Filmora X retains the best speeds. This is not something we cannot say about other video editors in this category. If you have some resources to spare, a few more features will come in handy. For instance, you can use the Render Preview, VoiceOver, and Audio Mixer.
Therefore, if you have a PC/Mac with decent hardware, you don’t have to look back.
What Could Be Improved?
The problem is that Filmora X does not offer a fully free version. The free version works, but it puts a rather big watermark on the final rendering of the video. It would have been nice if we saw some options to get it removed.
As we said, Filmora X comes with a rather humungous collection of effects, transitions, and audio clips. It is sometimes so huge that you need a Search function. Unfortunately, Filmora X doesn’t come with one. There is also the lack of categories, which is a slight problem.
We also found that some of the included stock footage are very low-quality. It’s like Wondershare pushes us the maximum to get the Filmstock subscription. It would be nice if there was an option to download the Full HD or UHD version of the included footage collection.
Apart from this, we don’t have anything to say about the Filmora X package.
Availability and Pricing
Filmora X is currently available for Windows and macOS, offering almost the same set of features. There is a free trial that you can enjoy unlimited, but it would put a watermark on the final footage. If you want to remove this watermark and enjoy full features, you can pick one of the three premium packages.
The monthly Filmora X package costs $7.99 per month, which is fair for everyone. You can save some money if you decide to pay for the entire year by paying $39.99. If you hate monthly commitments, you can check out the Perpetual Plan, which costs $64.99.
We believe these prices are very affordable compared to what an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription or one Final Cut Pro purchase would cost you. As for Mac users, features offered by Filmora X are many times better than iMovie.

FilmoraPro by Wondershare is a much less expensive video editing software alternative for emerging social media editors. It works on both Mac and PC computers and at just $149.99 (Lifetime) or $89.00 (per year), FilmoraPro is a steal and better yet you can also download FilmoraPro for free (it just adds a watermark on the export).
But does the price make it a worthy alternative to Premiere Pro? The short answer is: yes, for editors working on social media videos.
But, lets dive into the details to show all that FilmoraPro has in relation to Premiere.
What FilmoraPro Has
A Familiar NLE Interface
If you’re looking for a similar editing NLE (non-linear editing) interface as Premiere, FilmoraPro has it. When I first opened FilmoraPro, I could instantly see that they have a similar UI as Adobe Premiere Pro’s. Here is the side by side below:
Customizable Workspaces
Just like Premiere, FilmoraPro also has dedicated workspaces designed for editing, color grading, audio editing, text and titles, effects and more. You can also customize and save your own workspace
Media Panel
The media panel is very similar to Premiere’s “Project Panel.” You can create folders in your media Panel where you can import footage, photos, video and more. You can open clips up in the trimmer and select “in and out” points to start created your project’s selected material.
Timeline Presets
Unlike Premiere Pro, when you open FilmoraPro, a timeline is already open. And it’s not called a timeline, it’s called an Editor. You can click the gear icon to customize the timeline’s frame size and frame rate. You can also select from multiple different types of presets, from Instagram to GoPro.
Timeline Tools
You can customize the track sizes and also rename and insert new video or audio tracks. The edit tools include the selection tool, cut tool, slip edits, rate stretch tool. and most importantly snapping clips together.
In FilmoraPro, you can also customize keyboard shortcuts from the Preferences panel so you can use the same keyboard shortcuts as Premiere.
Playback and Resolution
Unlike Premiere Pro, FilmoraPro doesn’t have a render option for playback. You hit play and it will render as best as it can as it playback. You can reduce the playback resolution, but there are some lagging issues with playback. I found it can be delayed and sometime freezes with 2.7k and 4k footage. This could definitely use some improvements since 4k is becoming a standard for editing.

Title and Motion Presets
FilmoraPro comes with great built in title templates that you can edit and customize in your video. And just like Premiere you can purchase more, but instead of from Adobe stock, you can purchase more templates from Wondershare’s Film stock library.
Drag & Drop Effects
In my opinion, FIlmoraPro has far more and far better built-in effects than Premiere Pro. It has effects like light leak transitions, films grains, and two tone looks, which Premiere Pro does not come with (you have to buy those separately). You drag and drop effects on the clip or with transitions drag them between clips. It also has a control panel where you can customize your effects, your clip’s transform tools, and keyframe as well.

Color Correction & Grading

FilmoraPro also has all the core color effects, including curves, LUTS, vibrance, temperature and more. If you’re in the color workspace it also has scopes so you can read color.
Export
You can export a video by using an in and out point in the timeline or by exporting all the content.
What FilmoraPro does not have
Multiple Sequences: You cannot have multiple timelines open at once, you can only work in one timeline at time. With Premiere Pro you can have multiple open.
Adjustment Layers: There are no adjustment layers for applying universal effects to multiple clips at once.
Dedicated Color Panel: It does not have a Lumetri color panel to make universal color grading and correction effects.
Dedicated Sound Panel: It does not have an Essential Sound Panel where you can make universal audio adjustments to any time of audio
No Audio Preferences: It does not have audio hardware preferences to record audio directly into Premiere Pro

Conclusion
Overall, FilmoraPro gets the job done, but it does need major improvements to it’s playback/rendering and it lacks some panels that make it faster to apply color & audio adjustments in Premiere. But, considering it’s only $149 it’s definitely worth the money.

So what do you what you think from first glance, do you think it is worth it? You can start using Filmora Pro for free with a watermark and if you think it’s good fit for your workflow you can purchase a license to remove the watermark.
